Many cultural activities are a very important of the life in Jičín. Jičín is famous of its unique atmosphere which also inspired the Czech writer Václav Čtvrtek and the painter Radek Pilař (along with other artists) to put the “healthy patriotism” and the cultural insight together.

Aside of well-known cultural activities as the Festival of Jičín (Jičín: Town of fairytales) and the Carnival of Valdštejn, there are also many other cultural activities and places worthy to visit: vernissages, various lectures, concerts, theatre shows and some more activities which takes place in the traditional places and in historical buildings of Jičín as well: in Valdická gate (Valdická brána), in the Castle of Jičín and various churches, in so called “Valdštejn loggia” and in a synagogue. The combination of art, theatre or music and of unique historical atmosphere makes every cultural event especially remarkable.

A very special and characteristic feature of cultural scene of Jičín is the fact that aside of professional institutions as Masaryk Theatre, Bohemian Paradise Biograph, Václav Čtvrtek Library and many others, the citizens of Jičín are heavily active and creative when organizing cultural stuff. There are many clubs, societies and cultural institutions that either organize and provide various cultural activities by themselves or help to organize. Thus, Jičín is proud to present an excellent cultural programme all year long.

All visitors who visit Jičín even in the off-season have nothing to regret – there are various events and cultural highlights which are worthy to be seen. This is perhaps the best compliment for such cultural city as Jičín.
